What’s Google’s Position on Auto-Generated Content? (AI-Generated Content)

According to Search Engine Journal, Google Says “AI Generated Content Is Against Guidelines“.

What is Auto-Generated Content?

Automatically generated or Auto-Generated content is content that’s been created with the help of machine learning and artificial intelligence tools. This is the simple definition of automatically written content and Google has a problem with this kind of information.

In today’s context, this simply means Google has a problem with AI-generated content.

But at the same time, there are some leading AI content writing tools like Jasper AI and Writesonic AI which are used by Google.

You can find the logo of Google on these AI copywriting platforms in their client’s list.

If Google can use these tools for a content generation then why can’t we?

Valid question, isn’t it? I’ve asked the same thing to Google’s Search Advocate John Mueller on Twitter.

Till now, I haven’t received any reply from John Mu or Google. Waiting for their response on this.

But in the latest Google SEO office-hours episode from April 1, 2022. John explained Google’s position on AI content.

You can watch the episode here and find out Google’s position on autogenerated content. You can watch 22:13 to see the response.

Google SEO office-hours Episode For AI Generated Content

Briefly, John said AI-generated content falls under the Automatically-generated category and that the reason is against Google guidelines. For Google, if you use machine-learning tools to automatically generate content then it will consider webspam.

The catch will be how Google will identify between human and AI written content where John said I can’t claim that but if Google identifies something automatically generated on your website, then the Google webspam team can definitely take action against your website.

Still, there is no clear answer on how Google will identify between Human written and AI written content. You can also read this post where you can find Google’s take on AI-generated content at Digital Media Story!

It will be fun watching this trend and how Google identifies the difference between auto-generated content and human-written content.

Meanwhile, you can check Jasper.ai and Writesonic.com‘s official websites to find the logo of Google on their websites.

I am personally using a couple of AI writers for content ideation and writing. Jasper AI is my favourite and helps me overcome writer’s block.

Writer’s block is a genuine issue we all face while writing content and the beauty of these tools is that it helps us overcome that and write 10X faster than our normal speed.

This is one of the main reasons I got attracted to this new GPT-3 based technology for content writing.
